What is different about Jalpaiguri

Sized to the tea season

Most factories manufacture from about March to November and slow right down in winter. Units banked in the quiet months carry forward, but whatever is still banked on 1 April is lost, so we size to the season the factory actually runs.

Big sheet roofs, done properly

Withering and drying sheds have large metal roofs. Modules go on rails along the sheet profile, with walkways for cleaning, after we have checked the purlins.

Lightning and wet ground

The foothills see frequent thunderstorms. Every plant gets its own earth pits and a lightning arrester, with earthing designed for soil that stays wet half the year.

Winter and monsoon, in the numbers

Short, hazy December days and the long Dooars monsoon both cut output. Our generation band always shows both as they really are.

Questions

Asked in Jalpaiguri

Do you install solar for tea factories in the Dooars?

Yes. We are building a plant at a tea factory in Jalpaiguri district now. A tea factory plant is sized to the manufacturing season and the time-of-day bill, because units banked in the quiet winter months lapse on 1 April under the West Bengal rules.

Who handles WBSEDCL net metering in Jalpaiguri?

We do. We prepare and file the net-metering application with WBSEDCL, follow up the inspection and, for plants of 100 kW and above, get the Chief Electrical Inspector’s approval before the plant is switched on.

How much will a rooftop plant generate in Jalpaiguri?

About 3.4 to 4 units per kWp per day averaged over the year on a shadow-free roof, roughly 1,240 to 1,460 units per kWp a year. March to May is strongest; December and January are the weakest, with the monsoon months not far behind.
